How NYC drag works (and how to find tonight's show)
NYC has drag every night of the week. For a ticketed dinner show, Lips in Midtown East is the reliable choice; for drag brunch, book a weekend seating; for free shows, Hell's Kitchen and West Village bars such as Hardware, Industry and Pieces run drag nightly; and Brooklyn has the artiest, most gender-expansive work.
There are four ways to see drag here. Dinner shows are ticketed, seated and built for birthdays and bachelorettes. Drag brunch is the weekend version with bottomless mimosas. Bar shows are the heart of it: a queen, a microphone and a tiny stage in a neighborhood gay bar, usually with no cover. And Brooklyn and Queens are where the stranger, artier, more gender-expansive work lives, along with most of the competitions.
Line-ups change weekly, so treat any fixed schedule (including the one on the old version of this page) with suspicion. The working drag community's own daily listing is Thotyssey, which posts every show in every borough by neighborhood each morning. Check it before you leave the house. Lips NYC
Birthdays, bachelorettes, Broadway Brunch
The city's longest-running drag dinner show: 30 years, a rhinestoned room for up to 250 people and a different cast each night. Current themed nights include Bitchy Bingo with Chaka Khanvict on Wednesdays and Dinner with the Divas on Thursdays, with glamour revues on Friday and Saturday and a late-night Dirty Show ($20 cover, two-drink minimum). The website lists the room as closed Monday and Tuesday. A 20% staff gratuity is added to every check; bring cash for the queens on top of that.

Lucky Cheng's
Interactive, roast-heavy drag dining since 1993
The original drag-dining brand, founded in 1993, is on the move again. Its website says it is relaunching in October 2026 in the Secret Room, a basement venue on Eighth Avenue, after a run of weekend brunch shows at Green Fig in the YOTEL on Tenth Avenue. Schedules and prices at the new address are still settling, so buy tickets through the official site and ignore older listings that send you to the YOTEL or the East Village.

Lips Broadway Brunch
Show tunes and bottomless drinks
Saturday is Blackie O's Dragalicious brunch; Sunday is Ginger Snap's Broadway Brunch, now in its 15th year. The current menu prices an entree with unlimited mimosas and Bloody Marys at $52, before tax and the automatic 20% gratuity. Show-tune fluency is rewarded.
Rise Bar
Local queens, two weekend seatings
A proper gay-bar brunch rather than a tourist production. Two seatings, 12:15pm and 2:30pm, Saturday and Sunday, strictly 21+. Hosts rotate among the neighborhood's busiest working queens. If the booking form will not take your party size, the bar asks you to call.
Pulperia
Latin brunch with margaritas
The Latin brunch the old version of this page listed as "Leyenda" (that was a mix-up; it is Pulperia). Shows run Saturday and Sunday around noon and mid-afternoon with a resident host. Time Out's June 2026 round-up quotes $40 for unlimited mimosas, $60 with cocktails, and a $60 per-person minimum. Good food by drag-brunch standards: order from the raw bar.
The Dickens
Drag bingo brunch
Bottomless bingo brunch hosted by Jacklynn Hyde, Saturdays and Sundays at 1pm and 3pm. About $30 buys 90 minutes of bottomless drinks. Arrive 15 minutes early so you are settled before the first number is called.
Stella 34 Trattoria
Themed Sunday brunch with RuGirls
The surprise hit: a themed Sunday drag brunch six floors up inside Macy's, often led by Drag Race alumni, with Empire State Building views. It is ticketed in two seatings; recent tickets were about $28 each before food. Themes change weekly (a Lady Gaga brunch is on sale for October 18).
Kween
Astoria's drag brunch
A queer-owned cocktail bar with brunch shows on Saturday and Sunday (1pm, plus a 3:30pm seating on Sundays). Time Out lists bottomless mimosas and bellinis at about $30, or about $49 with an entree. The room is small and step-free.
Branded Saloon
No-cover Brooklyn brunch
Sunday brunch show at 2:30pm with a rotating Brooklyn cast, no cover and all ages welcome, which makes it the easiest drag brunch to bring a mixed group to. Bottomless mimosas run about $30 and entrees start around $12, so tip like you saved money, because you did.
Bar shows: free drag every night
No ticket, no minimom beyond a drink. Hosts below are those listed for the first week of October 2026 and will rotate.

Nightly shows, no cover
Shows nightly, no cover, and half-price drinks from 2pm to 8pm seven days a week. Jasmine Rice LaBeija anchors Tuesdays; weekends run an early show and a late one. The back room fills fast, so come before the first set.

A bigger room with a real stage and a show around 11pm most nights. Tuesday's Star Search, hosted by Kizha Carr, is the long-running weekly competition; Thursday is Queen with Brenda Dharling. Two-for-one drinks from 5pm to 9pm.
Pieces
Two shows a night on Christopher Street
A cheerful dive that has run drag nightly since 1993, usually with an 8pm show and a second one at 10 or 11pm, plus Sunday afternoon bingo. It is a short walk from the Stonewall Inn, which also books drag upstairs most nights.
Club Cumming
Variety, drag kings, karaoke
Alan Cumming's bar is less a drag bar than a variety room where drag, cabaret, burlesque and crafting nights share a stage. The current calendar includes Drag King Bingo on Mondays and Drag Karaoke with Miss Behave on Fridays. Open 6pm to 4am daily.
Icon Astoria
Queens drag most nights
Astoria's dependable drag bar, with a show most nights and a Sunday competition called Pantheon. Pair it with Albatross, a few blocks away, which marked its 11th anniversary in October 2026 with a drag show and runs bingo and Divas Live nights.
That is a starting five, not the whole map. In Hell's Kitchen, Balcon, Ritz, VERS, Hush, Boxers HK and Red Eye all had drag on the calendar the same week, close enough to walk between. In the West Village, add Playhouse, The Monster and The Duplex. Uptown, look at Suite and at Lambda Lounge in Harlem. In Jackson Heights, the Latin bars on Roosevelt Avenue (Friend's Tavern, Viva La Heights, Hombres) run their own late shows. Brooklyn drag, drag kings and competitions
If Manhattan drag is polish and punchlines, Brooklyn drag is concept: horror, clowning, live singing, performance art, and a much wider range of genders on stage. The names to know are 3 Dollar Bill in East Williamsburg (it calls itself the largest queer venue in Brooklyn, and its side room 9 Bob Note hosts competition series), C'mon Everybody in Bed-Stuy, Metropolitan in Williamsburg, House of Yes in Bushwick and Good Judy in Park Slope.
Drag kings are having a moment. The collective Switch n' Play plays littlefield in Gowanus roughly monthly and takes over the Bell House for its New Year's Eve Eve show. Murray Hill, the city's best-known king, holds the 2026-27 Vanguard Residency at Joe's Pub and will curate a year of programming there. The competition series King of Drag is bringing its season two finale party to Brooklyn. More in Sapphic NYC.
The best way into the competition scene is a set of weekly contests where new performers get stage time and the audience helps decide: Star Search at Industry (Tuesdays), Open Call at Balcon (Fridays), Pantheon at Icon (Sundays) and Red Idol at Red Eye.

Big-room Brooklyn drag
Dance floor, stage and a fenced back yard. This is where Drag Race and Dragula alumni play Brooklyn, where the city's competition series hold their finales, and where Bushwig landed in 2026. Take the L to Montrose Av.

A one-night round-up of drag kings from around the country, hosted by Murray Hill. General admission was listed at $23.

Bushwig
The festival of drag, music and love founded in Bushwick in 2012 marked its 15th edition on September 26, 2026 with a 4pm-to-4am marathon; tickets were about $50 to $60. It has moved venues over the years (Knockdown Center hosted it through 2025), so check before you travel.
Family-friendly drag and storytimes
Drag Story Hour NYC still exists, under a new name. Since February 2025 the non-profit has been Drag Artists for Expression NYC, and it produces storytelling and creative arts programs for children in libraries, schools and community spaces, including bilingual storytimes. Most are free. Brooklyn Public Library hosted its literacy festival at Central Library in September 2026, and both BPL and the New York Public Library list sessions on their event calendars.
Performers are trained with children's librarians, events are usually pitched at ages three and up, and free tickets sometimes need reserving. The organization posts upcoming dates on its social accounts rather than a fixed calendar.

Booking, costs, tipping and etiquette
Check the daily listing
Open Thotyssey on the day. It lists every show by neighborhood with start times, and it is more current than any venue's own website. Thotyssey daily listings
Book the seated stuff early
Dinner shows and prime brunch seatings go a week or more ahead, longer around Pride, Halloween and December. Book on the venue's own site. Groups of six or more should call.
Get cash before you arrive
Break a twenty into singles and fives. Bar ATMs charge for the privilege and Marie's Crisis-style cash-only rules are common downtown.
Arrive before the first number
Bar shows do not hold seats. Twenty to thirty minutes early gets you a stool with a sightline; walking in mid-ballad gets you read.
Plan the way home
Hell's Kitchen and the West Village are walkable between venues. For Brooklyn and Astoria, check late-night subway changes before you go; see getting around.
Tip during the number
Tips are a large part of a performer's income. A dollar or two per number is normal, more for the host or a show you loved. Walk it up or hold it out; do not throw coins or fold bills into anything unrequested.
A service charge is not a performer tip
Lips adds a 20% staff gratuity to the check. That goes to the floor staff. The queens still work for the bills you hand them.
Hands off
Do not touch a performer, their wig or their costume unless invited. If a queen comes to you, play along; that is the fun.
The mic belongs to her
Heckling is not participation. Cheer, sing when asked, and let the person with the microphone do the jokes.
Photos
Phone photos without flash are generally fine at bar shows. Ask before a posed photo and tip for it. Keep the aisle clear.
Bachelorette parties
You are welcome at the dinner shows and brunches, which are designed for you. In a neighborhood gay bar, remember you are a guest in someone's local: keep the group small and the sashes modest.

A Harlem fraternal lodge begins an annual masquerade ball that becomes the city's biggest drag event; by the early 1930s the ball at the Rockland Palace was drawing thousands. More in Harlem.
